Hi, people call me Van.

I was born in southern Germany into a traditional Greek immigrant family. Growing up between cultures, I developed an early sensitivity to the natural world, though a career in engineering initially led me away from a creative life.

In 2018, I picked up a camera and began documenting the people and places around me. A year later, I left my career behind and travelled with my camera, documenting the aftermath of Australia’s 2019 bushfires before eventually finding myself living and working on a farm in New Zealand during the pandemic. There, my relationship with nature, community, and photography began to fundamentally change.

My work evolved from simply documenting landscapes to exploring belonging, vulnerability, connection, and our relationship with the environments we inhabit. Diving later opened another dimension to my practice, leading me beneath the surface and into a deeper engagement with the ocean.

Since returning to Australia in 2023, I have worked as a photographer, scuba instructor, and conservation diver, documenting marine ecosystems and participating in ocean conservation projects. In 2025, I joined the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish Control Program, living aboard a research vessel and documenting the realities of protecting the Great Barrier Reef from within.

Today, mountains, forests, and oceans are not simply subjects of my work but places I consider home. My photography reflects a belief that environmental sustainability is inseparable from the relationships we have with ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

For me, photography is ultimately an act of presence: listening, observing, and allowing stories to reveal themselves rather than forcing them into an image.
